About Needle Solitaire

Screen shot of the game Needle from Pretty Good Solitaire.

Needle is a one deck, open solitaire game. Open games have all of the cards visible at the start of the game.

How to Play

There are nine tableau piles. At the start of the game, eight cards are dealt face up to the first, second, eighth and ninth tableau piles, four cards are dealt to the third and seventh piles, two cards are dealt to the fourth and sixth piles, and the fifth pile is left empty. The remaining eight cards in the deck are dealt face up to a reserve pile.

The objective is to build four foundation piles up in suit from Aces to Kings, when all cards are moved here the game is won.

In the tableau, only one card a time can be moved. Building is down by alternate color. The top card of the reserve pile is available for play on the foundations or tableau. Also, you can move any card to the reserve pile as well. The reserve pile may contain as many as 18 cards. Remember of course that only the top card can be played away from the reserve pile, so it will have to be emptied in order.

Needle is a fairly easy game to win, it can probably be won every time. Troublesome cards can be placed in the reserve as long as you have a means of getting the cards back out of the reserve (such as empty tableau piles).
