La Nivernaise is an old classic two deck solitaire game.
There are six tableau piles and eight reserve piles. At the beginning of the game, four cards are dealt to each of the six tableau piles with only the top card face up. One card is dealt face up to each reserve pile. The remainder of the cards form a stock.
There are eight foundation piles, the left four are built up in suit from Ace to King and the right four are built down in suit from King to Ace. The object of the game is to move all of the cards to the foundation piles.
There is no building on the tableau. Empty spaces in the reserve may be filled by a card from the tableau.
Clicking on the stock deals 4 cards to each tableau pile. There are two redeals - during a redeal all the cards in the tableau are collected in the stock to be redealt out 4 cards at a time by clicking.
La Nivernaise was improved by Albert Morehead and Geoffrey Mott-Smith into a new game called Tournament.
